Favourite things: Curious yarns

December 13, 2011

There are innumerable fibres around for textile craftspeople these days, and here are a few of the more unusual.

From top to bottom, left to right.

  1. Newspaper, spindle spun
  2. Possum
  3. Nettle
  4. Corn
  5. Milk protein
  6. Cat hair (dog hair also available)
  7. Banana
  8. Carbonized bamboo – a man made rayon fibre originally used by Edison in lightbulb filaments. The colour comes from the heating process, not dyeing.
  9. Steel
